Principal Investigator: Prof. Dr. Menghao Qin

Prof. Qin has performed research into Building Physics and Materials since the late1990s. His work has included smart materials for built environment control (e.g. PCMs, MOFs, polymer hydrogel etc.); hygrothermal performance of buildings; indoor environmental quality (IEQ); and energy-efficient building design etc. He has developed advanced experimental methods, new smart materials, computer simulation models and environmental control technologies. He has published over 150 research papers and 3 books, and has managed several large-scale research projects with international partners, e.g. EU H2020, IEA, NSFC, etc.

Dr. Qin completed his PhD in Built Environment at the National Laboratory of Engineering Sciences for the Environment (LaSIE, CNRS) France in cooperation with Lund University, Sweden in 2007. He obtained an honorary degree of Doctor Communitatis Europeae (DCE) in 2008. He worked as a post-doc researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) USA from 2007 to 2009. Before joined DTU, Dr Qin was a professor and director of center for sustainable building research at Nanjing University. Dr. Qin is the member of many international academic societies (e.g. ASHRAE, ISIAQ, SFT, ICE, CAR, AUGC, CAST etc.). He has also serviced as Guest professor at the University of La Rochelle, France; Founding Director of the Center for Sustainable Building Research at Nanjing University, China. Visiting professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich); Guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA; Member of National Steering Committee of Building Technology Education in China, etc. Dr. Qin is responsible for teaching building physics, building technology and sustainability across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in both civil engineering and architecture; and supervising MSc, PhD, Postdoc and visiting scholars.

In addition to the research and teaching, he also has extensive experience in environmental system design and green building consultancy. He has practiced internationally including work in the UK, China, and Korea. Dr. Qin also provides consulting for many big construction projects including the new site of China Central Television (CCTV) etc. and for firms including Panasonic, Carrier Shanghai Ltd., and East China Architectural Design and Research Institute Ltd. (ECADI). Dr Qin has designed or provided consultancy to more than 20 green building projects worldwide.
